Register Domain
This guide explains how to register a new web domain, both through Cloudflare and through other registrars, and how to later add the domain to Cloudflare if it wasn’t registered there initially.
Register a Domain
You can register a domain in two main ways:
Option 1 — Register Directly with Cloudflare
Cloudflare allows you to register and manage domains directly from their platform, with no markup on domain prices.
Steps:
- Go to Cloudflare Registrar.
- Log in or create a Cloudflare account.
- Click Register a Domain.
- Search for your desired domain name.
- Select an available domain and follow the checkout process.
- Once registered, Cloudflare automatically manages your DNS and nameservers.
Your new domain will be immediately available under your Cloudflare Dashboard → Websites section.
Option 2 — Register with Another Domain Registrar
You can also register your domain with other providers such as:
Steps:
- Visit your preferred registrar’s website.
- Search for your desired domain.
- Complete the registration process and payment.
- After registration, note the domain registrar’s dashboard where you can configure DNS or nameservers — you’ll need it if you plan to add the domain to Cloudflare later.
Add the Domain to Cloudflare (if not registered with Cloudflare)
If your domain was registered with another registrar, you can still manage DNS and security via Cloudflare.
Steps:
- Go to your Cloudflare Dashboard.
- Click Add a Site.
- Enter your domain name and click + Onboard a Domain.
- Choose a plan (the Free plan is sufficient for most cases).
- Cloudflare will scan your current DNS records automatically — review and confirm them.
- Cloudflare will provide two nameservers (e.g.,
abby.ns.cloudflare.comandnoah.ns.cloudflare.com). - Log in to your domain registrar’s dashboard.
- Replace your current nameservers with the ones provided by Cloudflare.
- Save the changes.
Note: DNS propagation may take up to 24–48 hours.

Verify Your Domain in Cloudflare
Once your nameservers have updated:
- Return to your Cloudflare Dashboard.
- You’ll see a confirmation message once Cloudflare detects your new nameservers.
- After verification, Cloudflare will begin protecting and managing your domain’s DNS.
✅ You’re done!
Your domain is now active and managed through Cloudflare.
